I know - only 2 watermelons harvested for the entire season is unheard of in my garden, but that's exactly how 2012 will be remembered. Several environmental issues contributed to it, but mainly disease brought on by the unbelievable amount of cucumber beetles, I think. Anyway, I couldn't help but take this bonus shot with Jude in the background.

This is the first year ever I've had bad cucumber beetles. I'm thinking the warm winter made most of them survive.
Well, at least it's a nice looking watermelon. Up here in metro-Detroit the heat wave has made all of my various melons a huge success. Haven't eaten any yet, but the vines are just LOADED with huge fruit. Your pooch is cute--I do love a good lookin' GSD.
There are a lot of cucumber beetles here too.
I have 14 Crimson Sweet & Black Diamond watermelons in my garden right now. ;o) I'll give you some of mine when they ripen (and when I come to visit you again).
Cucumber beetles are doing a number on my melons, cucumbers, and squash this year as well. It looks like Jude either hopes you will share watermelon with her or throw her a ball. LOL!
Daphne - the numbers in my garden were astounding, and I even resorted to using Spectracide once.
Dorothy - I'm happy for you, and know how challenging it is to grow melons in your climate.

Greg - That's great, and bring them for our parents, they are really missing them this year.
Rachel - I assure you that she is thinking both. Ha.
I just found our cantaloupe had been "skinned" by rabbits. Between them and the deer I don't know if we'll end up with any this year, either.
I guess one is better than none, or one more! My beans are almost lace because of the beetles. Next year!
your watermelon have elegant structure according to grab by hand.In India, we have got good harvest for watermelon in summer season. But weight of each watermelon may be 2 or 3.
I am finding squash bugs but they don't seem to be doing any damage yet. Planted watermelons on a trellis this year. Excited to eat them.
