Late season plantings

Most things have played out already for the year, and have been planted for a second time to reach maturity just as summer is winding up - things like squash and cucumbers, of course......
But, this is also the time I always plant beans every year, because you get a huge yield when things cool down later. A variety of bush bean is planted here in the picture.........

I'm going to try to plant bush beans a little later in the summer. Getting two successions is harder here, but I'm hoping it is possible.

I was thinking my beans were very late. I only got them in about 3 weeks ago, and they're less than a foot high. Now I don't feel so far behind! Thanks for the info.

Daphne - beans planted in spring where I live don't provide much yield before the summer heat takes it's toll on them. That's why I just settle for a late planting.

Lori - Well I guess it depends on where you live......

I'm up to my eyeballs in beans, with more growing, and I'll probably plant another crop of them, just because I have the room and nothing else to put there! I wish somebody would go out in this heat and pick some right now.

I can get a couple bush bean plantings in. The summer planted seeds germinate and grow so fast. As long as I can keep the Japanese beetles away from the new leaves they do really well.

Granny - Well, I'm sure someone will take any leftovers off your hands.

Rachel - yeah those Japanese beetles really like that tender foliage that comes with a new planting of beans......
