Other developments in Jeff's world

Longtime followers of my blog know how I enjoy building things. Well, part of my rehabilitation was to construct something new that would increase the aesthetics of the landscape. No longer do I have to ask if it's ok to build something in a particular location - I just do whatever I want. That's the way it should've been all along.....Anyway, here's a planter I added to the yard.

The harvest of blueberries is unbelievable this year, and syrup will definitely be made from the ones that make it to the freezer. Man, these things are both plentiful - and good......

Pickles have been made at least 3 times already, and I'll try my best to eat them all before next season arrives. It's just difficult for one person to consume all of this food. Ya know?

In other news, the heat is beginning to cause the garden to diminish somewhat. Powdery mildew is showing up on the squash and cucumbers, and of course every species of bug has now made it's presence known.....Onions have been pulled and are curing for storage, and beautiful days of spring are long gone now.....

I made pickles a couple years ago..they are still in the pantry..my husband and my kids said they aren't as good as Grandma's...oh well!

The planter is beautiful Jeff! I think that maybe you should make some blueberry vodka too. Then you just need to add a little seltzer and syrup and you will have a fine drink!

There is one way you can get rid of some of your wonderful food. Have a good old fashion Bar BQ!

I dream of a blueberry harvest that is big. I don't think I'll ever get it. But I'm going to hope anyway.

Good heavens, you're canning already! I just get started when you're already winding down. Those pickles look great....I should have trained Mr. Granny better ;-)

That planter is cool, I was trying to count the sides, are those decagons stacked on top of each other? I like have you staggered them as you built it up. Very nice look.

I am with you on the heat...my squash plants are covered in powdery mildew too. I sprayed some stuff from Lowe's, but it hasn't worked.

Both the round planter and wheelbarrow planter in the background are so beautiful. You are very talented.

The blueberries look wonderful. Our bushes are full of unripe berries this year. It will be a great year if we can battle the birds and the chipmunks.

The planter is beautiful, Jeff! You'd be welcome to put it anywhere in my yard.

Mmmmm. Dried blueberries in granola! At least that's what this California girl would do.

I may still have a jar or two of pickles from a couple of years ago, but this year's cornichons have been eaten up already, as they're made. Maybe smaller is better?

Ahhh, 12 sides, the infamous dodecagon. Very nice!

Awesome planter, it's just beautiful. I would love to have one of those on my yard, or two, or three, ha. You are very talented!

Jealous of your blueberries, those are huge and, well, blue! I agree on the dried blueberries too, great way to keep them. Freeze some, dry some, syrup some, and eat some fresh. You can never have too many, LOL!

Stef - dried blueberries in granola sounds wonderful, but I guess syrup is on the menu

Kris - dodecagon? Well, I've learned a new word today - thanks to you. :)

1st man - thanks, man.....

Langela - thank you for your kind words and thoughts. It truly is a difficult day......

I bet you could sell a few of those jars! I'll second or third the putting that beautiful planter in my yard. Most of us have no woodworking skills whatsoever - much less other (techie)skills. LOL.

Barbie - I'd love for everyone to have a planter, but can't build that many. Lol. However, I'd gladly teach anyone that wanted to know how. My door is always open. :)
