Snow peas, broccoli, and bush beans are doing good so far, and there is a planting of these items at each end of the largest raised bed.
Pole beans are growing like crazy in the middle section, and most days the light gusts have these towering vines laid against the removable fencing. Only 1 harvest has been had so far, but hopefully a couple more will come before first frost arrives.
In other news, the new rainwater catchment is finally complete, and I'll show you the results tomorrow. Also, it's almost time for the fall leaf-drop, and I'll be more than ready for the bounty of bagged leaves to start coming in. My goal is to someday have enough finished compost to take 3-5 years off from having to mess with it. That would be nice for this worn out body of mine....

It is going to be nice to have some fall veggies! Hopefully next year I will be able to have more fall crops.
That is some composting goal! My goal is to just keep mine going!
Robin - after the deeper 4x9 box is filled in the spring, the sheer volume of compost needed each year should diminish quite a bit. Hopefully then, some surplus can be accumulated.
Love your blog. What are the pros and cons of growing your veggies in the giant plastic tubs?? Just wondering if its something i should consider.
Love your blog! What are the pros and cons of growing in the big plastic tubs. I notice you put your tomatoes and zucchini in there. Just trying to decide if its something i should consider for next year.
I wish I had started some fall squash, but it's probably too late now.
That's a beautiful large squash leaves :o) ..I remember when I would complain of a back ache in my youth the old folks would say "shut up, you don't even have a back yet" :o) So I say to you "shut up, you don't have any old bones yet". :o)
Wow, that zucchini is doing very well in the SWC. I should try experimenting more with mine next year.
Melissa - thanks, alot of time goes into keeping the blog maintained. As far as growing in the large totes - there really isn't any advantage, in my opinion. A deep raised bed works just as good.
Japanese redneck - unfortunately, it is too late.
Ginny - I might not be old, but my body is quickly wearing out.
Grafixmuse - yeah, it actually surprised me too, because zucchini in the raised bed gets pretty stressed when torrential downpours take place.
wonderful fall garden :)
Mrs. Pickles - thank you...
Hey, EG: I'm a baker when I need to keep my mind off "other things." Winter gardening is a whole lot more figure friendly.
Sending good thoughts,
Cheryl
p.s. That zucchini really looks good.
Cheryl - I'm a builder, so that's what I do when I'm sad.
Wow, that zucchini is gigantic! I should build me some SWCs!
