I'm running an underground water line all the way from the new rain harvesting system out to the north end of the largest raised bed to make my life easier next year, and from there a simple garden hose can be used to water everything with. Sigh....it's gonna be so much easier - like cutting the rope on a big anchor that I've been dragging around.....At $21.95 for a 100' roll of this pex pipe, it's a good investment. Only thing is - digging a 100 ft long trench for it requires a lot of breaks in between digging. Oh well, I'm certainly not afraid of a little work. :)
In other news, this new planter I'm building is gonna be sweet...Tons of work, though!!!! I'm tempted to give you a sneak peek at it - but it would just ruin the surprise. Lol. Sorry, Robin... :)
Also, I'm posting with this new app called blogaway and really like it. Only problem is that it places your pictures at the beginning of the post, and it would take alot of HTML code manipulation to correct it. Oh well, no biggie....

All timesavers usually require some kind of beginning effort!
Japanese redneck - I fully agree, and thankfully I can just take my time with it.
ooh, this type of irrigation system is exactly what I want to do with my rain barrels. I've been wanting to make my life easier with watering the garden. Right now, I transport water this way. http://nycgardening.blogspot.com/2010/07/how-to-water-garden-with-rain-barrel.html
Your watering system is coming along nicely. Are you just using gravity for the water to feed from those containers via the pex pipe or are you putting in some kind of pump system?
What a great idea to run an underground water line. With the new rainwater storage tanks in place watering will be so much easier. I can't wait to see the new planter.
Definitely a good idea. I'm sure you've worked out the flow issues. Can't wait to see what you've come up with! Way to go man!
Meems - watering is the only thing I hate doing, and this is gonna make it a breeze.
Kris - I'm going with gravity, but have a small pump if needed.
Grafixmuse - it was a no-brainer, and who wants to lug 150 ft of hose around when it's time to water? Not me....you'll like the planter. :)
Sinfonian - of course.....I'm through going into things blindly.
I wanna sneak peek too, never mind Robin!
Mrs. Ginny - haha, you wouldn't believe it if I showed it to ya. :)
Find a way to scent the ground like moles and let Jude do the trench work.
Are you going with a stub up to a hose spigot?
Mark - if Jude would dig in a straight line, I'd certainly let her do the digging for me. Yes, I'll have a spigot on the end.....
Great idea EG! Don't mind that Ginny, she can be a real pip...if you know what I mean :)
The suspense is going to kill me! When will it be done??? Nosy people want to know!
Robin - I'm really not sure when it will be finished. This project is far more complicated than initially thought, but is turning out fabulous so far.
I buried two 100' water hoses 5 years ago to get water to a distant bed in the front yard...used my electric lawn edger/trencher to slice thru the grass....so I have water available out 300-400 feet out front....little time and under $30...
Gary - it sounds like your system saved alot of time and labor too. I'd hate to even think about hauling water 300-400 feet.....
