Since the first late-season frost will likely arrive with tonight's 33 degrees, everything was harvested from the garden this evening. Around 5 lbs. of beans, peppers, and zucchini were added to the year's harvest total - ending the warm-season garden for the year. Oh well, at least it was pretty productive, I guess.
In other news, the loneliness of the inevitable winter season has certainly arrived - making each night as dreaded as you could possibly imagine. But, I'll make it somehow - with hopes of better days ahead. For now, the planter is what keeps me going, and should be finished in a couple of weeks - if not sooner. When it is done, my tools will be retired. With all that is being put into this construction emotionally, I just don't think anything will be left in me for building anything else. :(

EG, don't forget your friends and family are there for support when you need them! Make the time and effort to join them for dinner or a movie (even if it is a movie night in), a phone conversation or whatever a few times a week to keep yourself busy and connected. It's always good to build and nurture those relationships when one has been dissolved. Take care!
Will things like lettuce, cabbage and radishes be okay if there is a mild frost?
You have a really great Gardening site EG.
When you have the time - check out this gardening related blog post - as I think you may be interested - http://www.comicbookandmoviereviews.com/2011/10/wwwgardeningtipbookscom.html
So sorry that loneliness is seeping in. Winters are hard. I hope you can find something to keep you busy and stop your mind from thinking sad thoughts.
I know Jude is an outside dog, but do you think she could get used to being inside with you at night? It is so cozy sitting down watching a movie or reading with a dog warming your feet. She could provide some company for you.
I agree with GrafixMuse - you can get so much comfort on a cold and/or lonely night from a loving pet. We kept several German Shepherds as house pets when growing up and boy are they cuddlers! Keep good thoughts, EG.
You might want to consider a cold frame or two. I manage to keep lettuce and kale growing in mine right on into the winter months here in SW Mo.
Yeah, I was thinking Jude indoors with lots of inside-games like nosework. She would like it, you would have something to do. And look around -- there may be friends out there you had no idea about. Find someone lonelier than you and make them dinner? Talk to your dad a lot? We're rooting for you.
Ha, thought I was the only one going to say "Bring Jude in the house!".
Sometimes when we spend too much time by ourselves, we spend way too much time in our own head. Go join a gardening group or whatever other hobby might keep the lon-lies away. With your skills, perhaps help out at Habitat for humanities? Gets you out and keeps your hands busy. I do not know if you believe in a higher faith but for me, listening to combined voices raise in praise help soothes the "Why God?" in my life even if there is no immediate answer. Blessings to you and I very much enjoy reading your blog.
