Trellises that were previously engulfed in foliage from watermelon vines are now naked from their absence, and only the removal of knee highs from the wire mesh is still at hand.

Only one tomato plant remains, and this would be a black brandywine that is growing in the recently built 6 gallon self- watering planter constructed from recycled cat litter buckets. The funny thing is, I really don't have a logical explanation for keeping it. Perhaps it's my reluctance to accept that the end is drawing near? Probably....

In other news, more improvements are being thought of, and I can certainly say that a couple would really make next year's experience much easier. The only problem is, the problematic muscle issue with my lower back really controls how quickly they are finished....
I'm also anticipating the upcoming muscadine grape harvest in a few weeks, and can't help but wish that each grows to a bigger size before finally mature. Grape jelly will be made from most, but at least a quart of the extracted juice will find itself in the freezer for something later.
That's all for today

The end of the garden? THE END OF THE GARDEN??? It can't be. We just started. Didn't we?
I'm with you, it's hot, there plenty of tomatoes falling off the counters, the plants look spent, time to get on with the next season :) !
No EG, you can't taunt us with unnamed improvements and not tell us what they are. That is just cruel.
Granny - I'm looking forward to some downtime, because it's really been a difficult season for me.
Erin - I'm certainly ready....
Daphne - hmm......it sounds like someone is anxious to find out what EG has in the works....lol
Wow, our garden is just getting going, and yours is winding down. Our tomato plants haven't even ripened yet.
I'm so mad. I thought the vine growing on my fence was a grape.
No it looks like it's a possum grape and just a junk vine.
I'm with Granny, seems I just got started :o( what about the Winter garden? am I late or is it too early?
ugh! Seems I'm always catching up...
wow, I can't believe your garden is so empty! I'm trying to get mine to hold on at least until September! Longer if I can! Enjoy yourself some relaxation!
Meems - it gets so hot down here, that things really become stressed toward the end of July. That's why an early start is very important.
JapaneseRedneck - I'm sorry, those posse grapes certainly will make you think that a muscadine vine is growing wild......
Gingerbreadshouse7 - it's about 2-3 more weeks before fall transplants can be set out, and I won't even bother with a fall garden this year....
Shawnann - I usually try to keep mine growing longer, but just got burned out, I suppose.
EG, enjoy your break. I wish my stuff was slowing down. It seems like I pick and shell peas all the time now, which is good, but it is just a lot of maintenance. I normally get that way with my grass cutting too. By August I am pretty sick of cutting grass.
I'll be looking forward to see what new improvements you come up with! Hope you recuperate from the summer workload soon! :-)
It must be a little strange to have so few garden chores so soon after having so many! Looking forward to hearing about your next project . . .
