Lance, dawninspirit, and Connie - welcome, and thanks for following the blog...
Gosh, i'm almost embarrassed to show more squash as the only thing harvested for last week, but it's the only thing coming in right now. Due to all of the melons planted, the majority of my harvests will come in during the month of August, it would seem.....Anyway, here's more squash eye candy for those that might be squashless at the moment.
Photo below - here's a shot of the entire planting of 2 zucchini and 5 yellow squash. The upside down tomato cages continue to keep them from bushing out - although one really has to keep the branches tucked into the right places...Still, it's definitely worth the effort to keep them contained to their 4ft. x 7ft. alotted space....
Photo below - here's a shot from the end of the raised bed - as it's been a while since a picture from this view has been taken...Makes ya wanna jump some hurdles, don't it? Lol
In other news, we got a pretty good shower on Sunday afternoon, and boy was I glad to see it..I'm sure it did nothing to add to the rainbarrels, but at least the garden didn't have to be watered. I'm sure that most of you wonder why I don't setup some kind of homemade watering system to do the task for me, but in reality it's enjoyable to spend some up close and personal time with each plant, because I find lots of bugs while doing it. Still, my health continues to degrade as each year passes, and I guess some serious thought needs to put into doing it....
Also, i've made a video about growing your own sweet potato slips, and will get it uploaded hopefully this coming weekend.
Take care, and happy gardening
EG

Squash is the only thing here also. I've got some cucumbers trying to get ready and some tomatoes trying to blush, but they're still a long way off. Love how you keep them in line with those tomato cages!
The end of squash here in NOLA has come suddenly. I dont want to jinx you up there, but the SVB has arrived! I was able to harvest a good amount this year before they arrived. I guess I'll have to switch to butternut this fall and next year.
We had a nice pan of squash for supper last night.
Our supper guest about killed herself eating it.
Ah, such is the joy of eating seasonally. Can you imagine saying, squash soup AGAIN! hehe. Can you believe I haven't planted mine yet. Should today. Thanks for the reminder.
Sure hope your health improves rather than degrades!
I can't get over how mature your crops are! My summer squash and cucumbers haven't even poked their little heads out of the ground yet. Of course, our furnace is running this morning, which has never ever happened before in June. The onions, lettuce and cabbages are sure liking the cool weather though.
I just had a good ole time following you thru the Blackberry patch and then watching the construction of the Giant tomato patchs :o) I liked the way you showed the construction and opening of the fenceing..I thought it was a good idea and one I'd like to try too! This "Almost an Acre" farm seems to be shrinking :o(
Congratulations on your squash bounty, mine aren't doing so great. I am still waiting on our rain to show up. What variety of squash did you plant? I planted Dixie Hybrid, but have been disappointed so far. Please check out this post and tell me if you can tell what is wrong with my plants. The leaves are kind of yellow.

Hey EG! So excited, and I must share my news with you. Finally I have three watermelon growing as well as ten cantaloupe on my trellis. Granted they are still tiny, but considering this is my first time ever gardening (and of course trellising) I would say that is quite a feat! Same water issues up here in eastern North Carolina though ... and by water I do mean lack thereof. I don't get it ... seems like it is severe weather or no weather at all! Praying for rain .... my waterbill, yikes!
Thanks for the welome and jealous that you are already able to start harvesting- it is quite a ways away for me.
I planted my squash yesterday and today. Normally I would be harvesting my first tender baby squash...too cold and too wet in Sunny California this year.
Ribbit - I've even resorted to not taking pictures of the squash anymore....
Eric - no svb here yet.....
Japanese redneck - haha, that was funny!
Sinfonian - never had squash soup - just fried....
Granny - aw, you poor thing - hopefully your weather will improve....
Gingerbreadshouse7 - I'm really glad that you liked my videos. :)
Kelsea - I'm thrilled that your melon plantings are doing well! They need lots of water right now, at least an inch per week....hopefully rain will come our way very soon......
Connie - you're welcome!
Very soon I'm going to have a tantrum over my squashless state! The groundhogs ate the few that were close to being ready.
Samantha - that's unfortunate to hear, and wildlife can sure be a burden at times....
I just planted all my cantaloupe and watermelon transplants yesterday! My husband thinks I am taking over the yard! My squash plants are just beginning to flower so I hope to enjoy some squash soon! My dh is making me a little PVC contraption to water my garden. We'll see how it does!
Your garden is looking good!
Oh I'm squashless, so love looking at them. I am getting my first buds on some of them, but I don't see any female buds yet. Soon I'm sure. Probably right when there aren't any males ones around lol
Shawnann - pvc watering contraption? Oh, I can't wait to see it.....
Daphne - isn't that the way it always goes - one gender is present, but not the other?
