While taking pictures for posts about certain topics the other day, I decided to take a few of the various sundry things happening behind the scenes, so to speak. Blog posts can't always be about tomatoes, corn, and squash, and this is my effort to post something different.
Photo below - here's a cluster of squashbug eggs that were found while watering the other day after work, and if a person can locate and destroy these before they hatch - they've really got an advantage to keeping the squashbug population from harming their crop later. I always squash mine with a stick or something, but the main thing is to remove them from the plant itself.
Photo below - another nest with 4 robin eggs in it - this time, located in one of the grapevines...Although it's pretty neat to have birds find solitude in the fruit orchard - this ain't no stinking' birthing facility. Ha!
Photo below - the poppies that were planted back in March for my daughter have finally began to flower, and sure are pretty. They'll be given to her on her next visit - which I hope is pretty soon...
Photo below - new planting of corn that was sown by the wife about a week ago, and have already began sprouting. It'll be "Early Sunglow" for this second crop, which is 63 days to maturity. If we like the variety, I may try to get in 3 different crops next year....
Photo below - with my trusty sidekick Jude and her unbelievable desire to play with a frisbee, I just had to see what she thought of this one. Hehe....her eyes were huge when I calmly whipped this monster out...I bet her inner voice was saying something like "Holy Moly...this is the greatest day of my life...Are you gonna throw that thing, or just whistle Dixie, mister?" Anyway, it was pretty funny to see her catch it for the first time.....The cloth part is already damaged by her constant chewing, but definitely worth the 4 bucks spent on it....
In other news, the bugs are out in full force finally in the garden, and at least 20 tobacco hornworm eggs have been found already. Weekly sprayings of BT will take care of that little problem though - that is, is I don't find them first...
Also, the blackberries should be ready to pick in about 2 more weeks, and I'll be sure to video me and Jude out there.
Take care, and happy gardening
EG

I am growing more squash this year and that will mean more squash bugs. Ugh! I am not looking forward to that.
Jude must have loved that frisbee :)
Lucky Jude! It's so weird seeing summer pictures from everyone because it's rain, rain, rain and winter temps here.
Great picture of the robin eggs, those things are prettier than Easter eggs! I am learning a lot about squash bug eggs myself. If you spray the squash bug eggs with insecticide, does that kill them or do they have to be picked off?
Grafixmuse - squashbugs can be a real pain if you don't stay on top of them....
Stefaneener - I'm sorry the weather has been less than ideal in your area. We could seriously use some of that rain down here...
Kris - you have to either crush the eggs or remove them from the plant.
Face it EG, the birds just like what you have going on. ;)
Those eggs are a fantastic color!
I hate bugs.
My husband was amused at me attacking the squash bugs that I found on my zucchini. My thought..."EG would be proud!"
Those robin eggs are beautiful.
