Odds and ends

The temperature reached 90 today, and everything in the garden is really responding to the increase in warmth. Although most things aren't ready for that kind of exposure, the Red Siberia and Stupice tomato plants are...The last 3 weeks have been kinda rough on the little things, but finally they are beginning to grow.

Photo below - All of the leaves in the 4x9 box were piled up on one side, then Kentucky Wonder pole beans planted around these makeshift green colored cages inside the enclosure. Originally, there was no intention to plant any until late summer, but since the space was available - it was a good opportunity to grow a small amount and utilize the available area. Besides - my baby has to have her green beans....

Photo below - The rhubarb has new growth, and quite frankly I don't know what to think of it. Perhaps some of you experienced rhubarb growers can enlighten me on these things shooting up from the center? I know absolutely nothing about growing this stuff, and also when to harvest a few stalks...BTW, it's in its 2nd year....

Photo below - It was alot of hard work, but the 5ft x 28ft flowerbed that was constructed last year is finally finished, and waiting for some plants to go in. A couple of dwarf ornamental trees will likely go in, but not much thought has went into the rest. However, as stated before - a beautiful centerpiece will be added later when it's been constructed, and will perhaps be the most special thing ever created with these hands....

In other news, the scorching hot temps today really sucked the energy right out of me. Man....talk about sweating profusely....Tomorrow will be more of the same, because i'm about halfway finished with constructing a wheelbarrow planter that will be added to the landscape when finished.
Anyway, since i'm on vacation from work as of today - big things will take place over the next several days..

Take care, and happy gardening

EG

Wow, 90 degrees, we're happy 40 degrees lower. My broccoli was melting, ROFL. Of course I'd LOVE to get my tomotoes outside before I harvest them. hehe.

Could Spring really be here??? I'm holding my breath, just hoping. Can't wait for the finished pictures of what you are doing for the flower bed!

I'm looking forward to seeing that flower bed filled up. And whatever your centerpiece is, I know it'll be cool.

Wow 90. I hope we don't see 90 until June. I'm really hoping for a nice spring with even temps. Like that is going to happen.

Ugh, 90 degrees is uncomfortable gardening weather. So much is happening in your garden.

The rhubarb's new growth are flower stalks and should be removed as they form. Since this is the second year, you can harvest a few stalks at any time.

sinfonian - yeah, it was a real scorcher...

Dirt Lover - yep, spring is finally here.

Alison - me too, but I dread purchasing those expensive trees for it. I know you'll like the centerpiece.

Daphne - yeah, I wasn't ready for that kind of temperature just yet..

Grafixmuse - ah, thanks for the information...i'll remove them pronto.

We're still in 40s over here! Isn't it a bit early to be in 90s already? Heat loving plants should do well though.
