Finally finished collecting leaves for the year

eilinor - welcome, and thanks for following my blog!

Somehow I just knew that bagged leaves would be in abundance right after the New Year's Day weekend....I mean, the weather was beautiful, people were off from work for some extra days, and I was still seeing alot of unraked leaves in people's yards. Sure 'nuff, come Monday at lunch time - Boom! I filled the truck with huge bags of leaves with grass clippings mixed in. Oh....some of the bags would weigh 75 lbs, and were about 3 feet tall. Yeehaw! I'm good to go, now! Hmmm....I may have to make that 6th bin available for a batch right now, by shoveling the finished compost out and into some kind of big bags....Hehe.

As Lloyd would say,  "Weee're there"

In other news, the 2011 spring garden plan is taking shape, and the autocad drawing of it is almost complete. It'll be quite different from last year's, and the sweet potatoes will be tried vertically for the first time. However, I see no problems in making it work - as long as I keep the vines tied up to the trellises.

Also, the garden will be smaller this time around, amounting to only 200 sq.ft. Oh, there's a good reason for it - as i'll reveal sometime next week. You're gonna think i'm insane - but it's a sacrifice i'm willing to make.

Finally, preparations for the busy month of February will be made during the rest of this month, as things are gonna really pick up later. I mean, pruning everything in the orchard, starting around 100 tomato and pepper seeds, and all of the construction projects to boot will get kinda hectic. Oh well, at least i'll have something to keep me busy..

Take care, and happy gardening!

EG

I couldn't imagine people around here raking leaves in January. Though we did have a really nice week last week. We almost got up to 60 which is pretty high. We still have snow on the ground though.

Never a dull moment at EG's place! LOL!
I'm hanging on a cliff, so to speak... waiting for your announcement!!"

Wow! 100 tomatoes seedlings! What are you going to grow? I'm thinking all heirloom this year... The Seed Saver's Exchange catalog (see page 62) has a variety called Federle which sets 7" long red paste tomatoes... I'm thinking tomato sauce here!

You've done a lot of work with your compost bins EG! I keep thinking how awesome it's going to be when the time comes to spread that earthy gold all over your garden!!! I'm understanding that composting is the missing link in my gardening experience...

Have a great gardening day my friend!

Daphne - there's still tons of leaves in people's yards, and the pleasant weekends always bring people out...

Japanese Redneck - oh yeah....lots goin' on around here right now.

Toni - i'll grow about 12 different varieties of heirlooms, and have some really good selections this time. You've gotta make compost! It's very rewarding...

stefaneener - hehe....Compost King? hmm....I like the sound of that.

robin - oh boy! it's gonna be a shocker to most...ha!

Glad to hear you are back at it. Can't wait to hear why you are going smaller. I spent half the day outside today. Just love the sunshine this time of year, although I had to come in every hour or so to warm my hands up. I'll be missing that in August, when it's 110 outside.
