Harvest Monday - August 23rd 2010

It's harvest monday again, and make sure you visit Daphne's Blog to share a link to your harvest post, as well as see what everyone else has for the week!

This week's harvest has some new things to show - as the first butternut squash reached maturity, and also the muscadine grapes are starting to come in. The tomatoes are looking pretty bad these days, and clearly show signs of disease, though.

Several videos will be posted this week, and I hope you like them. In one, I address the reason that some of my melons were much larger than others - which of course, was inspired by my good friend Daphne.

Take care, and happy gardening!

EG

Your grapes look great!! What are you going to do with them?

I love the muscadines. What will you do with them?

Oooh, you have a melon. Nice! My son asked me for years to plant melon. I did this year, but it died while we were on vacation in Sweden. :(
Question, do you eat it garden warm, or chill it first?
Bottom picture, grapes or cherry tomatoes? Guessing the latter.
Looks great!

I was debating this morning whether to pick my Butternut or not...how do you know when it is ready?

What a wonderful harvest! I wish it was warm enough here in London to grow okra, but it never is! I love your beefsteak tomatoes.

Very nice harvest, EG. How was the watermelon?

Robin - I will make grape jelly with htem. :-)

The Mom - Jelly....

Annelie - I only eat the melons when at room temperature - trying to do it chilled makes my fillings hurt like crap! Ouch! BTW...those are muscadine grapes in the last picture. :-)

RandomGardener - oh, the grapes are very good!

ShawnAnn - I left a comment on your blog about it...

Matron - Hi! Yeah, I could see where it would be difficult to grow okra in London. :-)

Cheryl - thanks. It was pretty good, but i've had better.

Awesome looking watermelon EG! Hopefully we'll get to see what it looks like on the inside.

I wish it was warm enough here for us to grow muscadines. I remember watch a tv program on their health benefits. What do they taste like?

Lovely harvest. Those tomatoes look HUGE. And a watermelon, um-um. I can hardly wait to get our community garden up and running so I'll have room to grow them.

Dan - the grapes are actually quite small, compared to most muscadine grapes you see.

Thomas - I ate the melon the other day, and it was pretty good! The grapes are really good, but the outer skin is pretty tough.

Lou - thanks, dude. Most of the big tomatoes are brandywine.
