Harvest Monday! Yeehaw!!!!!

Welcome, Trish - and thanks for following my blog!

Umm...yeah....i'm trying to control my excitement but it's no use. Finally!!!! Oh god, i've finally got something to show since the onions a while back. Whew......These straight eight cucumbers couldn't wait any longer, so I just had to pick them. Some will likely make their way to some of my friends at work, because we don't eat many around my house - just make pickles with them. I'll only make whole dill pickles this year - as we still have some bread and butter pickles leftover from last year. Anyway, these babies came from the vines growing in the 34 gallon swc.

If you'd like to share your harvest for the week, visit Daphne's Dandelions to take part in the festivities - and also see what everyone else is harvesting.

In other news, it was extremely hot over the weekend, and working on the flowerbed was almost unbearable. There's a reason I don't take on summer projects - it's just too dang hot! However, since the flowerbed is almost complete, i'll go ahead and finish it. My next project will begin sometime in early October, which will be much better for working outside. I'm thinking a nice ramp for my parents will be next.

A quick early morning survey of the garden revealed that the muscadine grapes will produce the bumper crop we've been waiting for. More on that in another post....

I've got several posts coming up with all kinds of stuff, and even have a couple of videos about my trellises and rooting tomato suckers. I hope you like them!

Take care, and happy gardening!

EG

Woohoo on the cucumbers! I think I've got one about ready to harvest tomorrow or the next day, but they've been a long time coming this year, haven't they.

Congrats on your cucumber harvest! Boy cucumbers would be a nice addition to salads right about now, but it will be a while before my first one. I can't wait.

Nice looking cukes EG! I've had several female flowers form but none got pollinated I don't think. I think if I see anymore this week, I'll have to do it myself as there is not a bee in sight!

Those cucumbers look good. I'd eat 'em all without much trouble. Cucumbers are so easy to cut into sticks and pack for lunch. I harvest them before they get too many seeds to eat that way.

Those cucumbers look like they are going to make fabulous dill pickles.

Congratulations on the harvest! Pretty soon you won't have enough space on your blog to show your bountiful harvests... Won't be long now...

Your cucumbers look great! When I have an abundance of cukes I refrigerate them and then juice them - the juice is delicious and refreshing. Sometimes I'll juice them with celery from my garden too.

Whoohoo! Cukes! I can't wait for mine. I love pickles too, but I'll eat cucumbers in anything. I love them.

Wow - cukes so soon! Mine are just shy of microscopic and fingers are still crossed. Cucumber beetles are rampant here.

Cucumbers already--I'm jealous!

Oh, EG, you're making me feel so bad because I keep forgetting to plant my cucumber seeds. Excellent cucumber harvest you have there.

Congratulations on your cucumbers. I know what it's like to be thrilled with a harvest! Mine have been small but welcome!

I, too, dislike gardening in the heat. I've grown flowers for years, but do most of my work in the spring and mulch well in the summer. The rest of it is up to Mother Nature's blessings.

The veggies are a bit more work, but not much since I'm gardening in containers, and they're fairly small.

Robin - why...thank you!

ribbit - yeah, it's been a long waqit, biut i'm about to be covered up in them!

rachel - isn't that the way it always goes? I have cucs, but no lettuce.....

thomas -ouch! Self-pollinating cucumbers is alot of work, because there's just too many flowers. Good luck!

Gardener - thank you. I only like them as pickles, and don't care too much for fresh eating.

michelle - yeah, they look pretty dadgum good, I reckon. Wife says she is gonna make some kind of marinated dish out of them.

momma_S - I don't know about that. It's gonna be interesting, that's for sure!

Jane - juice them? I've never tried that. I'll mention it to my wife, and see what she thinks about that. Thanks for the idea!

Daphne - yeah, i'm just excited to get to share a harvest. Heh.

Maureen - how ya doing, stick lady? Surprisingly, I haven't seen any cucumber beetles...

christina - yep! It's the only thing i've got right now though....

cheryl - how can you forget to plant cucumbers? hehe...You'd better get started!

Martha - i'm not sure where you're located, but it's like "Africa" here right now. Whew....I can't do anything without wiping sweat away...

Awsome! They must have tasted sweet :-)

Great harvest, EG! My spiny cucumbers germinated only two weeks ago and I can't wait to see flowers on them...
I can understand how difficult it is to work in this heat. I'm going through the same here - it's just hotter and hotter with every passing day!

Nice cucumbers, a good reminder that I still have to plant mine! We don't eat that many cucumbers here either so I just forgot them...

Dan - we haven't tried them yet, i'm waiting for the wife to do something with them.

Maureen - yes indeed, how could a person forget about that? Ha!

Chandramouli S - I can imagine your climate is pretty similar to mine - if not hotter.

Angela - you'd better hurry!!!HEHE...
