A good day for fishing

Since there's so many things going on in the garden at this time of year, a much deserved break from it was certainly in order. Going fishing is quite relaxing, and my wife is always begging me to take her - even when I really don't have the time for it. However, occasionally I decide to just drop what i'm doing, and give in to her requests. So, we loaded up the truck and headed out for a few hours of fishing for crappie. The wind was really blowing hard, so taking the boat was completely out of the question. Anyway, we caught the following fish from the bank of a small local public lake about 1-1/2 miles from our home......

The stringer of fish consisted of 13 crappie, 8 largemouth bass, and 1 shell cracker - and probably 5 or 6 little ones were released back into the lake after being caught. The 22 fish that were brought home took about an hour to clean, as i'm pretty proficient with a plain old fillet knife while someone (Austin) holds a flashlight for me. Of course Jude has to get involved too, and I usually hold each fish down to her level so she can get a good look, and lick it too...hehe...Sometimes she tries to bite them.

Anyway, these will be fried up pretty soon. MMM...MMMM

Take care,

EG

That's awesome EG. What a great catch. You'll have of great meals from it.

I don't envy the cleaning process though. haha. Are you going to put any of those fish guts and heads in your garden? I'm sure your tomatoes will love it.

Lots of fish for a short time of fishing. What time should I be there for the fish fry?

wow that is quite a catch, especially from the banks! I'm envious.
My dad bought my son his first fishing pole recently, we've yet to find a lake for him to fish in close by though.

Thomas - thanks. Well, i've been cleaning fish since I was about 10 years old - so I reckon it comes easy for me. No fish guts in the garden...

Becca's Dirt - Yeah, we racked up pretty quick. Hmm....we'll cook 'em sometime this summer.

ShawnAnn - thanks. I'm sure there's locations around you - ya just have to find them.

Sunny - thanks. It was pretty relaxing, to say the least.

Ribbit - ok, i'll have to do a cooking post sometime soon.

That a fine mess of fish there! Used to fish a lot but never do anymore. Occassionally we get our license and do some clamming now though. Have mostly sea water fishing and shell fish gathering options rather than fresh water fishing to choose from. Fun to watch them catch salmon in the fall off of point no point beach.

Most of the waterways around here I wouldn't eat the fish from. Though they have cleaned up a lot of the rivers in the Boston area, they still aren't fit to eat from. I envy your local fish. To get some here I think I would need a boat that can handle the ocean or go up to New Hampshire.

That picture makes me want to shirk all of my responsibilities and have some fun. I'm jealous too.
