Chad and Brandy, thanks for following the blog!As you know, I've been really sucking in the tomato department recently - thanks to blossom end rot, and a little excess magnesium. A total of 5 tomatoes have been thrown away, but things are looking up. In the photo below, 2 cherokee purple tomatoes are growing just fine so far. Man, I can't wait!

Photo below - it's a tiny opalka paste tomato! I sure hope these plants produce well, because some homemade salsa and spaghetti sauce would be great! I've already got some of the ingredients for making both, and they sure have gone up in price since last year...dangit!

Photo below - a little boston pickling cucumber. I'm pretty sure it got pollinated, but will know for sure in a few days. Folks....there's gonna be alot of pickle making going on around here later! A total of 14 vines should produce 250-300 cucumbers, I bet.

The peaches and cream sweet corn has begun to tassel, and i'll have to show you how I'm keeping it from blowing over, later. I learned to prop it up last year, because the stalks were falling like crazy in the sfg. Not this year, though!

Other things beginning to fruit.....
Yellow squash, Mortgage Lifter tomatoes, Brandywine tomatoes, and Big Boy tomatoes.
Also, let me tell you about my muscadine grapes - japanese beetles are eating them! Oh yeah....I inspected them yesterday, and wondered "What the ?" I'll spray every inch of the vines with some really good insecticide this evening, and stop them from ruining my harvest. Stupid beetles....I'll show them!
Anyway, I hope everyone has a nice weekend! I'll start building the rafters for the shed tomorrow.......Yay! Ouch, my knee.....

Those new tomatoes forming are really looking good. My cherry tomatoes have finally started to form. I just can't wait for summer to get here and all those harvests.
Wow, things are starting to get exciting in your yard! Those tomatoes look great. I still have my one big green tomato on the early tomato. Not really happy about the still green part.
Hang in there EG, that's one reason you planted so many and have so many in the wings. Plus you have what, three tomato seasons? That's two more than I have. You'll be great on your next two, and the three next year, and so on!
Yes, that cuke is pollinated. Great work and wow, that's tons of cukes you're going to harvest. I got nowhere near that with half that number of plants. I'm trying for a similar number of plants as you this year, if they grow. hehe
Nice tomato pictures.
Those &@#^% bugs. Don't you just hate them? I found two more cabbage worms and some kind of beetle yesterday, plus whatever is chewing on some of the leaves all over the garden.
Okay. Enough ranting. Enjoy your weekend.
Congrats on the 2 tomatoes...
Everything looks great! I can almost taste that little boston pickling cucumber with a little salt on it!
Yum!
Hi!
I've been following your tomato saga with interest! I too, have had a tough tomato experience this season. So sorry.
Daphne - I'm ready, too! I'll do a second planting later this summer.
Dan - things have definitely started exploding in growth. I can't wait for those cherokee purple.
Sinfonian - Only 2 tomato growing seasons here...I hope your cukes do well, as I know you don't get the warm temps for very long.
Cheryl - Thanks. The bugs are everywhere! That's ok, I've got them under control.
Susan - I don't like eating them raw, but can't get enough of pickles!
AccidentalHW - Welcome to my blog! I really blew it with the tomatoes, but they are still producing fruit, at least. I'll grow a whole new set of plants later.
Nice maters EG!
If you've got enough left over, you've GOT to make some of the mango, avocado tomato salsa that I whipped up today. To. Die. For!!
GL on the grapes too!!!!
Your corn is way ahead of mine! Good going.
I had problems with blossom end rot last year in my traditional garden. We'll see what happens this year with my sfg. But last year I used some powdered garden lime just one time and started spraying all my tomato and related plants with 1 tbs epsom salt in a bottle of water. Worked great to get more blooms and tomatoes. I had a ton and the end rot went away. I haven't seen what all you have done with yours or what issues you have but that did wonders for mine. Hope you have a big tomato harvest! We love homemade fresh hot and spicy salsa! That is what we do with ours!
