The deck

The deck, for my good friend Dan.

There's nothing like a raised deck overlooking woods. Our porch is like that and we feel like we're in a tree house. It's an even better feeling when you know you've built it yourself.

May I move in? I am in total awe of that lovely scenery and the wonderful decking.

Hey EG, I'll buy the plane ticket if you want to help build my deck for me. It's only 6 or so inches off the ground, but I could sure use your help!

You are so handy! I sure hope you can interest your kids in building things so when you're all fixed up you can pass on your wisdom.

Great looking deck, it looks so relaxing and enviting.

ribbit - I really like spending time out there in October, best. Having spent so many hours building it made me appreciate it - that's for sure.

waters_deep - It really is pretty when the trees are full of foliage, but not so much during the winter. Thanks!

Sinfonian - I'd be glad to help ya build a deck. The boys don't have any interest in anything I do. Ha! That's typical teenagers for ya. My knowledge of various things will probably be buried with me. Thanks for the compliment!

You'd love our winter - Got a good 13 inches over something like 6 hours. The trees around us were groaning something fierce!

When we lived in Alaska, the mosquitos were so bad, we bought one of those propane mosquito killers. I don't think it actually achieved the advertised coverage but it sure made the back yard better. The front yard was still pretty bad but at least we could sit out on the deck in the evenings.

Very nice deck. I do miss having woods and trees (I don't miss the skeeters though).

That is one sweet deck you built. Looks like a great place to relax. There is plans to build a small deck this year by the back door. It will be about 12'x10', just big enough for the grill and a couple chairs and to cover the deteriorating sidewalk.

Amy - thanks! I've heard that those "mosquito magnets" work very well, but are expensive, too.

Dan - Thanks, dude! I can't wait to see the deck you're gonna build. I bet it will be sweet!

Perfect, only one thing missing, a lounge chair. If it had one I would say, I’ll be down with my BM mix.

Wonderful deck! Carpentry and sewing are two things I haven't picked up. My mother is a seamstress and my uncle is a carpenter. I wouldn't worry about your boys. lol My mom used to plants all kinds of things in our yard, would get up early to do yardwork, etc. HATED IT. But one day, the gardening bug bit me. I'm only 27, but it took from age 8 to now to get it to kick in. Raise them up in the way they should go, and when they're older, they won't depart from it. :)

Kalena Michele - Thanks! Maybe the boys will come around someday...

Hey EG, do you think I had any interest in doing things with my dad when I was a teenager? Do you really think I had a choice though? Back then you sure didn't, and today I'm glad I helped... hehe
