Man, the garden is getting a good soaking every couple of days, and is really liking it! Especially the greens, because I just picked another 6 oz. of lettuce and spinach this evening. (Cool!)
I don't have any photos today, but that doesn't mean there isn't happenings going on. The cowpeas are sprouting after only a week from being planted, and will probably be thinned out a bit, after all of them emerge.
All of the tomatoes are looking well (except one), and I managed to pick another sucker from the healthy Cherokee Purple plant, and root it. As soon as the (almost daily) rainfall stops, copper fungicide will be applied to everything. Situations as this are a perfect for all types of fungal diseases to thrive, and I expect alot will show up. Better to be safe than sorry!
All of the melons have germinated, and I can't wait to start training them up the trellises in a couple weeks. Growing 7 different varieties is gonna be alot of fun!
Thanks to the rain, and much cooler temperatures - the broccoli has ceased it's recent issue of bolting. Whew...I think around 8 of the plants have already been pulled because of it. The cabbage section is really filling out well, and sure does look good from the road. I bet passersby think "good lord, look at what that retard has growing in that freaky garden!" Ha!
All of the pole beans are up, and should begin to latch onto the trellises in another week or two. Boy, this is gonna be alot of beans...hee hee.. Ya know....I think it's about time for another video! I'll try to get that done this weekend, if weather permits. That's about all that's going on around here for today, but the weekend is looking pretty busy!
Take care, and happy gardening!
EG

You are going to be as strong as Popeye with all those greens. Don't they taste so good in the spring, I think growing them yourself makes them taste better too. Good to hear all the warm season stuff is coming up. I can't wait to plant the warm season crops.
ROTFLMAO at "The cabbage section is really filling out well, and sure does look good from the road. I bet passersby think "good lord, look at what that retard has growing in that freaky garden!""

Dan - oh yeah....I'm definitely enjoying the big redneck salads about 3 times a week.
liisa - Oh...you should see some of the looks I get from people! Ha!
That's great that your garden is enjoying the rain. Mine is enjoying the sun for a change.
I'm going to have to check on the sucker action on the tomatoes. So far all the suckers look absoulutely tiny, not something you could plant. Going to have to take pictures of them for us please.
So glad your broccoli stopped bolting. I just read about that from Ciscoe today, and I figured it was bad seed of yours, not your hot weather. Good luck getting good sized heads before they bolt. Grrr. too hot spring weather for you. Sorry.
Ooh, another video, please!
Have a great weekend!
We're in for several days of soaking rain like your area. I had grand garden plans of ripping out the broccoli and putting in the other squash bush. Maybe I'll catch a break in the middle. You're right, the greens are loving the cloudy, damp weather. At least they'll hang on another week like this.
"You should see some of the looks I get from people!"
Bah, someone your size? My brother doesn't get any looks, haven't you seen him? hehe He looks like a cross between a convict and a professional wrestler. So what if I garden... what's it to ya?! hehe
I wish we would get some of that rain. We got a lot about a week and a a half ago and now nothing. We were supposed to get a good storm last night but it fizzled out. I'm going to have to water :<
Sinfonian - it's really not because of my size, or stuff like that...it's more about the fact that I'm ALWAYS out there, and nobody around here has ever seen a garden like mine. Hee Hee..
Daphne - I really wish it would quit raining already....Both rainbarrels are full and it just keeps coming down.
We need some of that rain down here! We're drying up. I've been watering all week long. The forecast is showing rain tomorrow afternoon and Monday. So I hope they are right.
I see on the radar that you're getting even more rain tonight! They are showing some pretty severe storms heading your way.
Everything in my garden is loving the on-and-off showers too. My broccoli is really taking off. No heads forming yet, though.
